TOUR OF WINE EXCELLENCE BETWEEN VALPOLICELLA, GARDA AND DOLOMITES

From the Valpolicella designation area to the classical one, passing through the city of Verona and then along Lake Garda to finally arrive in Trentino, at the foot of the Dolomites.  From the hills of Trento to Piana Rotaliana, from terraced vineyards of Val di Cembra to the excellence of Vallagarina.

 

 Day 1 | “Historical” Valpolicella and DOP green gold

The day begins a few kilometres north of Verona, surrounded by the hilly landscape of the Valpolicella designation, cradle of the renowned Amarone DOCG, a land rich in enogastronomic excellence and with a strong cultural footprint. The visit begins in an Amarone winery, in the eastern portion of the territory of the Valpolicella designation, followed by a stop at the  Wine Museum, showcasing agricultural and oenological work from the end of the 18th to the beginning of the 19th century. A special tasting of Amarone will conclude the historical-cultural experience of the morning.

Next up, lunch in a typical restaurant in eastern Valpolicella, whose pristine hilly landscape engenders unique feelings. The afternoon will be dedicated to the discovery of green gold, namely, DOP Veneto Valpolicella extra virgin olive oil, with a visit to an olive mill to discover oil processing techniques. The day will end with dinner in a restaurant with typical dishes of Veronese culture. To end the day with a bang, we spend the night in one of the beautiful facilities immersed in the wonderful hills of eastern Valpolicella, in the name of relaxation and wellness.

 

Day 2 | Verona, “city of love” and classic Valpolicella

On Day 2, our tour continues moving from the designation’s eastern zone, leaving behind us the wonderful hills of Cazzano di Tramigna, Illasi, Colognola ai Colli, Illasi and the entire Valpantena, crossing San Martino Buonalbergo and arriving in a wonderful art city listed on the UNESCO’s World Heritage List: Verona. Walk to the discovery of the historical district, known throughout the world thanks to the Shakespearean tragedy of Romeo and Juliet and the majestic Arena, the tour will involve the most important historical-artistic-cultural points of the city.

After lunch in a restaurant on the road leading to the Classic and Historical zone of Valpolicella, we head northwest, to reach the five communes that define the real Valpolicella or Val ... Polis ... Cellae: valley of many wineriesFumane, Marano di Valpolicella, Negrar, San Pietro in Cariano and Sant'Ambrogio di Valpolicella make up the Classic zone, where we will spend our afternoon visiting a winery to discover, trough the passionate narration of producers, the production techniques of  Amarone, including the special drying technique (appassimento)which allows the production of Valpolicella Ripasso, and appreciate the wine’s special properties through a series of guided tasting sessions. The day will end with dinner in an inn or restaurant with typical dishes of the Veronese culture, featuring the most ancient local recipes. To end the day with a bang, we spend the night in one of the beautiful facilities immersed in the wonderful Valpolicella hills.

 

Day 3 | “Noble” Valpolicella and Garda Trentino

The morning of the third day will be dedicated to a guided tour of one of the many mansions in the area, which will take guests back in time. Lunch will be in a typical restaurant. It is time to get to know Lake Garda, a waterbody that joins the regions of Veneto, Trentino and Lombardy, a source of life for numerous crops, including olive trees that yield the renowned Garda DOP extra virgin olive oil. While travelling through the eastern Gardesana road, which leads to Trento from Valpolicella, crossing the upper area of Garda , we will make a stop to a Trentodoc winery. We will next visit a winery dedicated to the production of Vino Santo Trentino DOC in Valle dei Laghi: true nectar of ancient origins, made from grapes of the most fragrant native Nosiola variety, perfect to accompany moments of relaxation and meditation. At this point, we get ready to transition from the Mediterranean environment to the Alpine setting, arriving in the city of Trento in the evening, where we will have dinner in a typical restaurant and spend our night.

 

Day 4 | Trento, “City of the Council”, hills around Trento and Piana Rotaliana

The following day is dedicated to the visit of Trento’s historical centre,  following an itinerary that will make wine, the so-called nectar of the gods, its unquestionable protagonist; we will then end up in the prestigious rooms of Palazzo Roccabruna, Trentino’s provincial wine house, where we will enjoy a special tasting session. After lunch in another historical restaurant , you will head to the surrounding hill, to pay a visit to another Trentodoc producer. Next up is a stop in Piana Rotaliana, north of Trento, where we will learn the secrets of one of its most celebrated products, Teroldego Rotaliano DOC, considered the prince of Trentino wines. We will spend the night in one of the quaint residential areas of the area at the foot of the Dolomites, which Cesare Battisti dubbed “the most beautiful vineyard garden in Europe”, in a charming structure overlooking the fascinating local landscape.

 

Day 5 | Val di Cembra and Vallagarina

And to fully enjoy the local culture, we will stop at the “Museum of Customs and Traditions of the People of Trentino”, the largest Italian regional museum devoted to folk traditions, including agriculture, crafts, religiosity, music and folklore. From here, we will go to the distinctive Val di Cembra, shaped by “heroic” farmers who built daring terraces to make the most out of the terrain yielding absolute excellence, such as the Müller Thurgau Trentino DOC, which found here its home. We cannot, therefore, miss a visit to a local winery to meet up close this extraordinary product so distinctly fresh and unmistakably fragrant.

On our way back to Verona, we make an essential stop in Vallagarina, south of Trento, where the town of Rovereto stands. It is here, in this evocative vineyard expanse, that extraordinary reds like the Marzemino Trentino DOC, this area’s most representative wine, are produced. Made famous by Mozart's Don Giovanni, it is a vibrant and brilliant ruby ​​red wine that is characterized by fruity and floral scents; we will meet it up close during our last guided tasting tour on schedule.
