The Red Delicious (Stark) apple, Snow White’s apple, originated in the United States way back in 1861. For the last 50 years it has settled in Val di Non, where it has found an especially favourable habitat.

Colour: dark and velvety red, frequently striped.

Special features: the bottom of the fruit typically has five bumps, and the skin is smooth and waxy.

Shape: truncated cone.

Flesh: fine-grained white to cream coloured, crunchy and juicy when just picked; increasingly fondant, soft and aromatic as it ripens.

Taste: intense and sweet.

Harvested: between September 10th and 13th.

Shelf life: from October to June.

Suggestions: perfect when eaten raw at the end of a meal or as a snack.
